Domaine du Séminaire, Fleur de Viognier 2019

Our opinion: It is a very classic, very light blend. No wooden passage, only from the tank. On the nose, we feel a very floral side which smells of violet, pear and white fruits well ripe. On the palate, there is a nice attack and liveliness, as well as a touch of bitterness aftertaste.

The Winemaker

Family vineyard of 60 ha on the heights of Valréas between 300 and 400 m altitude on clay-limestone and saffre soils.
The Seminary Domain is entirely worked in organic farming with a penchant for biodynamics, especially in the cellar where they use the lunar calendar. Today, they have various grape varieties on the estate to produce their red wines: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan.
Regarding tillage, it is done mechanically and is carried out by Hervé Pouizin. This allows him to see the evolution of the vines and therefore to adapt his treatments and his work. The harvest is mainly manual (70%).
Wine is for him a family story, his grandfather taught him a lot, especially to observe and take care of the plant. It represents the 4th generation on the Estate.

The Appellation

The AOC Côtes-du-Rhône is the regional appellation which, from 1937, defined the wines produced throughout the Rhône Valley. Embellished with many local and municipal AOCs distinguishing specific terroirs or specific production, it actually includes reds, rosés and dry whites (very minority) produced on 42,000 hectares of vines, scattered in 171 municipalities and 6 departments. Most of the production (more than 2,200,000 hectoliters per year in total) comes from the southern vineyards.
Predominantly Mediterranean, the climate benefits from hot and very sunny days, and is balanced by seasonal rains and the influence of the mistral. The grape varieties dedicated to this appellation are dominated by Grenache (40% minimum) for reds and rosés, Syrah is also very present throughout the southern part.
