Château Lagrange, Amphore Blanc 2019

Our opinion : This is very surprising because the Sauvignon is ultra dominant on the nose, a bit old-fashioned by these notes of boxwood, surely from the passage on lees. On the other hand, we find Semillon on the palate thanks to its very nice roundness. The vegetal side is still present, despite aging in amphorae. The balance between finesse, freshness and airiness makes it a very nice surprise!

The winemaker

Château Lagrange is a family property located in Capian, in Entre-deux-mers. The vineyard is mainly on hillsides clayey-silty and sometimes gravelly, including 4ha of white grape varieties and 5ha of red grape varieties. The property was bought by the Lacoste family in 1990, then completely restructured (vineyard and cellar). In 2000, the son (Olivier) was returned to the vineyard and in 2005 created SCEA Vignobles with his father Lacoste.

Since the father’s death in 2010, he has managed the property with the help of from his family. Then Laure (his sister) joined him full time in 2015. The objective is to remain a vineyard on a human scale (less than 10 Ha) and to favor the quality of the wines (typicality of our terroirs & AOC), rather than the quantity (limited production). They continue each year the investments, both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

The appellation

AOC Bordeaux is a regional AOC produced throughout the vineyard from Bordeaux. Red wines are mainly made from Cabernet-Sauvignon and Merlot, the first bringing its structure tannic, the second fruit and velvety texture. Cabernet Franc can also be part of the assembly. It then brings roundness and spicy aromas. Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère are auxiliary grape varieties used in certain blends.

White wines are generally elegant, fruity and floral with notes of lemon, white flowers and peach. In the mouth, it is translated by this dry and well-balanced side with strength and a beautiful roundness.
