Domaine de La Luolle, Les Plants sont Fleuris 2018

Our opinion : A very elegant wine from the Givry appellation, as the winemaker Olivier Dovergne does so well! We notice a very beautiful continuity between the nose and the mouth with its notes of small red fruits and its sweet floral notes. Silky tannins are added. It is a very well structured and dense wine that has the potential to age in the cellar.

The winemaker

La Luolle is a charming estate located in the town of Moroges on the Route des Grands Vins de Bourgogne. The estate has a wine-making past until the 1970s when Olivier and Sandrine Dovergne decided to revive it. They made this place their environment: a human-sized estate of around 8 ha under organic cultivation.

Anchored in the earth, Olivier wants to create wines that make you want and that are expressive. Over the seasons, he takes care of the vines with patience. He pays all his attention to the soil that nourishes the vines. It does not use any chemicals.

In Côte Chalonnaise, the vineyard is planted on clay-limestone or clay-silty soils with a semi-continental climate. It is divided between several appellations (Givry and Mercurey, Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise and Crémants).

The Appellation

The AOC Givry is located in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise on 260 ha of slopes. These hillsides naturally slope towards the east and are covered with stony soils of Oxfordian limestone and marl. The production of white wines concerns only 33 hectares of this vineyard renowned for its red wines.

The vines are planted at an altitude between 240 and 280 meters, on slopes facing south and east-south. The reds of Givry are very marked by their grape variety (Pinot Noir) and have a beautiful personality: their color is purple with violet reflections, their aromas are reminiscent of red and black fruits and violet, with smoky notes. Quite tannic, these wines round out and soften after 3 to 5 years.
