Domaine Mas Amiel, Alt. 433m, 2017

Our opinion : The “Altitude 433m” cuvée is the estate’s very beautiful cuvée. This is an AOC Maury. First of all, we notice this light color, very limpid. It’s very nice ! It seems very light on the palate.

On the nose, it is very surprising with this presence of violet. Then it lets appear touches of prunes, dates and fresh figs. In the mouth, it is the good taste of the balance between fruit and spices. There is no heaviness in alcohol.

To pair with a grilled steak!

Temperature service : 16°C – 18°C

The winemaker

The Mas Amiel estate is located in the Maury valley, in the region southwest of France, near the Spanish border.

The history of the estate begins in 1816, when the Bishop of Perpignan decides, during a game, to bet one of its lands, so named Domaine des Goudous. The bishop loses, and the estate reverts to engineer Raymond Étienne Amiel.

Since 1890, there is a historic cellar, with 30 wooden casks of Austrian oak used to age wines.

In 1907 the estate was taken over by Charles Dupuy, and passed from father to son until 1997. Since 1999, Olivier Decelle has been in charge of this historical area.

The appellation

The AOC Maury is an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée recognized since 1936. It is located around Maury, north-west of Perpignan in the French department of Pyrénées-Orientales, in the region from Occitanie.

It is mainly known for its natural sweet wines. In 2011, the Maury appellation is also granted to dry wines produced on the same terroir.

The main grape variety is Grenache Noir which must be present at 60% minimum in assemblies.
