Domaine Michelin, Les Combes Cachées, La Martelle 2020

Our opinionThis selection of Viognier plots has a very intense yellow gold color, with some green reflections. On the nose, there is an aromatic explosion with notes of hawthorn, wild rose and passion fruit. Peach notes are also added. On the palate, it is very fresh. The first palate is composed of touches of lemongrass and apricot. Ultimately, it is a very nice balance between minerality, intensity and persistence.

The winemaker

The estate was acquired in 2010 by a Belgian couple, Kathleen Van den Berghe and Sigurd Mareels. For several centuries the vineyard has been managed by women: Kathleen continues the tradition there with her team. When Kathleen is in the vineyard, Sigurd works in the mining industry: he played a decisive role in the acquisition of the property through his activity … and in the choice of the name too!

Château de Minière is a 29 ha vineyard located in the Loire Valley. It is certified in organic farming. This estate produces still and sparkling red and rosé wines, with the emblematic grape variety of the appellation, Cabernet Franc. The elegance of their wines born from the alliance between tradition and innovation. Their cuvées in amphorae and wooden casks, as well as their century-old vines bear witness to this.

The Appellation

Born in 1987 around the concept of varietal wines, the Pays d’Oc IGP proudly displays in France and internationally the colors of a sunny south, with wines now renowned. Between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains, Pays d’Oc IGP varietal wines shine over a vast territory, from the Camargue to the vermeille coast, in the heart of the largest vineyard in France. The freedom offered by this innovative concept of varietal wines, over the thirty years of the label’s existence has won over nearly 20,000 winegrowers in Languedoc and Roussillon, in the greater Occitania region.

Installed in private cellars or cooperative cellars in all four departments of Hérault, Gard, Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude and six municipalities of Lozère, they unleash their creativity to invent new territories of expression.
